MIAMI (AP) Michigan’s high school graduates are on track to finish their college degrees with a 4.3 percent graduation rate in 2018, a milestone that has been in the works since a state review of graduation rates in the past two years.
The state Department of Education said Tuesday the figures were released after a public hearing Wednesday in the Senate Education Committee.
The report showed Michigan’s graduation rate at 4.34 percent in 2018 compared to 4,3 percent in 2015.
Michigan’s average graduation rate for all students was 4.26 percent in 2017.
In 2018, it was 4,37 percent.
The department did not specify how many students graduated in 2018 with the highest graduation rates.
Michigan, which has a population of about 4.5 million, is the only state in the country with a graduation rate of less than 4 percent.
A nationwide study last year found Michigan’s rate was below 4 percent for the first time since 2003.
